Kel thinks my business travels are typically boondoggles.
Okay, so I got upgraded* to first class on flight from Atlanta to Santo Domingo. And on the return trip.
Okay, so I stayed at an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean.
But, hey! As soon as I checked in to the hotel, I immediately went down to the waterside to watch the cranes in operation:

See! Cranes across the bay! I am focused on my job 24/7!
All that aside, I would rather not have made that trip. Jeez, what a mess.
Right before I arrived at the terminal for my meeting on Wednesday, the customer had a massive failure of our equipment on one of their quay cranes. After a whole lot of pushing on my part, I had our factory build replacement modules in about a day. Then they went stupid an couldn’t figure out how to ship them for next day delivery. The customer will be lucky to have the crane in operation by the end of the day on Tuesday - a whole week down. To make them even more stressed, the CEO of DPW (Dubai Ports World), a sultan from Dubai, will be there next Wednesday.
To add insult to injury, my boss left me hanging. The customer asked me down to talk about a specific issue/opportunity. My boss was supposed to get the "official" details to me. Didn’t bother to do it. It’s not like we didn’t have the request from the customer for this for three months…
We’d be lucky to ever get another order from this terminal. This was supposed to be a way to break into the massive DPW market. I guess not…
* Delta normally upgrades the "Platinum/ElitePlus" frequent flyers on domestic flights, but not international flights. I think they oversold coach, so bumped a few people up to clear up some seats in the back. I’m not complaining….
