I tend to take a lot of pictures of flowers. I don’t really know what drives me to do it…

Anyway, here are a few of the many flowers that cover Bermuda. Despite being very lush, Bermuda is so carefully groomed. It’s really a beautiful island. And flowers everywhere…

I usually stick to taking pictures of wild flowers, since "domesticated" flowers are expected to be gorgeous. But there were just soooo many pretty flowers….

The most ubiquitous, as in the Caribbean, are the hibiscus. I found several variations:

An amazing variety of flowers around the grounds of the guest house & cottages. I don’t know the names of any of them, excepting the morning glories (which I didn’t catch quite early enough - starting to wilt).

A couple of flowers at the national aquarium:

Back to my usual habit of photographing the wildflowers…

It is amazing that these plants can actually grow on the prevalent volcanic rock, much less produce flowers (albeit tiny flowers). The first three share the succulent leaves of desert plants…

Well, that’s all for now. Tomorrow I’ll try to actually document our trip and activities…

And, just maybe, I’ll write a bit about my trip to Germany…

Right before Kel & I left for our weekend in Bermuda, I made a "fancy" dinner to celebrate Donna’s birthday. (Creamy shallot and endive soup with bacon; beef tenderloin stuffed with shiitake mushrooms, spinach, leeks, roasted red peppers, garlic, goat cheese, mozzarella fresco, and Romano cheese; fresh green beans with ginger, garlic and olive oil.)

Dessert, of course, was a birthday cake. I did NOT make it. I’m not much into sweet stuff, or food items that don’t involve garlic…

(Actually Donna’s birthday was the previous week, but I was traveling somewhere… I certainly wanted to make a nice dinner since Donna stayed with the kids while Kel & I went to Bermuda.)

As I mentioned in a previous post, Dyson set up office under my computer table. (I had been traveling a lot, and so I worked from home the one day I was actually in Roanoke. Dyson didn’t want to be more than a foot away from me. And he never stopped talking…)

When Keira realized that Dyson was pretending to work on "his computer", she went into overdrive helping him to set up his office. She supplied a laptop (with his own home page: dyson.com), a phone, a fax machine, various art* for his wall, a family picture, a sign, a welcome mat, and a mailbox. Of course, he also needed a stuffed animal. (I have a little golden retriever on my table that Keira got for me - not only is it the same kind of dog as Barley, the company that made it is "Douglas".)

Here’s a better view of some of the office equipment:

Needless to say, perhaps, I didn’t get much work done…

*Actually, Blair drew the picture of Daredevil. Kel hired Blair to watch the kids from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the week. (For a few weeks at the start of the summer and at the end of the summer.) This kept the kids from wearing out Kel’s parents. Blair also helped Keira with all of the mail in Dyson’s mailbox…

Rants and pet peeves 10:56 am

Whoever put the toilet paper holder to the side and behind the toilet deserves to be shot. Think about it - from where you are sitting, the TP is about 12" behind your back!

This is from the Holiday Inn in Long Beach, CA.

You have to completely twist around to get the damned toilet paper… As if my poor back needs any additional "challenges"…

To compound the problem, the perforations in the cheap toilet paper were next to useless. As such, you need two hands to separate the sheets, requiring you to twist around even further. Grrr….
